Making the most of your alfresco area

Home & Garden Blog

If you find that your alfresco area becomes a bit of a dead area which is only used when you entertain it might be time to rethink how you have it set up. Here are some tips to make sure that the area is an important part of your living space.

A comfortable outdoor dining table set

It's important to have an outdoor dining table that is as comfortable to use as possible, not just one that looks great. Test if the chairs and benches are comfortable for sitting for a long period of time while you are eating a meal and socialising. It's also a good idea to try eating at the table as some chairs can be very comfortable but lean you back to an angle that makes eating less practical. Not only does this make it more likely that folks will use the space to socialise, but you'll also end up cleaning less spilled food from the floor.

Install an outdoor bar fridge

Another issue that can put people off using their alfresco area is having to head back inside for water, cool drinks and other items from the fridge. Installing a small fridge outside that has cool drinks, icy poles in summer, and other useful cold items can make it easier for people to hang out outside and not drift back inside. Be sure to keep it well stocked so you don't have to constantly refill.

It can also be a good idea to keep some spare cutlery in their in case people drop their knives and forks.

Install a bug zapper

In summer the weather is great, but it's also the time a lot of insects come out to play. Having flies and mosses buzzing around can easily send people inside to a bug-free environment. Install a bug zapper  to keep the bugs under control and make sure that they don't annoy people.

An outdoor fan

While the warm weather is a great reason to head outside it can get a little too hot at times. A large fan can keep the air moving on hot, still days and provide some much-needed relief from the hot weather! There are some great outdoor fan companies that specialise in fans for alfresco areas.

If you want to get more use out of your alfresco area, it's a good idea to review the furniture and appliances outside to make sure it's a comfortable place to spend some time. For assistance, talk to a professional like http://www.furniturenmore.com.au.

Creating An Organised And Functional Kitchen

The kitchen is the most used room in my home, and in the past, I found it could get messy and chaotic very quickly. Trying to cook dinner when you can't find an essential appliance or see past the clutter on the counter is no fun. I realised I enjoyed my time in the kitchen more and was more productive when my kitchen was organised and laid out in a way that optimised functionality. I changed my kitchen cleaning and organising routine, decluttered, got rid of appliances I don't use and moved things around to ensure frequently used items were easy to reach. I started this blog to share my tips for creating a kitchen that's enjoyable to use, and I post about ways you can optimise the space you have. I hope you find my posts useful.
